Catherine E. Chronaki

Catherine E. Chronaki (DiplEng, MSc) is Secretary General of HL7 Europe, based in Brussels, and a leading voice in digital health policy and standardization. She has coordinated or contributed to numerous European and international initiatives advancing interoperability, patient summaries, and open standards, including xShare, Gravitate-Health, OneAquaHealth, and XpanDH.

Her earlier leadership roles include coordinating the Trillium Bridge and eStandards projects, and serving as President of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI). Catherine has also represented HL7 on the Board of Directors of HL7 International, co-chaired its Affiliate Council, and contributed to European Commission eHealth stakeholder groups.

She has co-authored over 120 scientific papers, served as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on IT in Biomedicine, and remains an active contributor to global discussions on FAIR data, real-world evidence, and One Health.

At the Health Data Forum Global Hybrid Summit 2025, Catherine brings her expertise in governance, interoperability, and standards to explore how policy can translate into equitable, people-centred data use across Europe and beyond.
