Elena Petelos
Elena Petelos is the President of the European Public Health Association's (EUPHA) Global Health section, a testament to her extensive expertise and leadership in international public health.
As a Senior Research Fellow in Public Health and a Lecturer at the University of Crete, Greece, and Maastricht University, the Netherlands, Elena brings a unique blend of clinical and policy knowledge. Her background spans medicine and biology, with a specialisation in molecular oncology, complemented by a mid-career re-training in health economics and policy.
Beyond her EUPHA presidency, Elena is a highly active figure in key international health organisations. She co-chairs the Real-World Evidence and Artificial Intelligence group at Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi) and serves as a Member of the Healthcare Professionals' Working Party of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Additionally, she contributes to the Advisory Forum of the European Commission's Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) and is on the Advisory Board of the European Forum for Primary Care, where she leads the Vaccines Working Group.
Elena's research, policy, and advocacy work are dedicated to fostering international collaboration, particularly in regulatory and legislative frameworks, to advance global health. A core focus of her efforts is on achieving digital equity and Universal Health Coverage (UHC), with a specific emphasis on leveraging real-world evidence and artificial intelligence. Her commitment to a holistic approach to global health is further underscored by her memberships in the Royal Netherlands Society of International Law (KNVIR) and the International Law Association (ILA).
