Ibai Díez Palacio is an Ikerbasque Research Fellow and coordinator of the Computational Neuroimaging Group at IIS BioBizkaia Health Research Institute in Barakaldo, Spain. His research uses large longitudinal cohorts and multimodal health data to model healthy brain ageing and identify deviations associated with neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. By integrating neuroimaging, clinical, genetic and environmental information, he investigates how these factors shape individual risk and disease progression, and why some individuals remain protected despite ageing or disease pathology. His work combines computational modelling of large datasets with molecular and neuropathological evidence to characterise disease trajectories, develop predictive models and identify potential therapeutic targets. He also connects findings from human cohorts with patient-derived experimental models, including brain organoids, to investigate patient-specific disease mechanisms and evaluate potential personalized treatments. At the Health Data Forum, he will discuss how longitudinal, multimodal health data can advance our understanding of brain ageing and Alzheimer's disease and support more personalised approaches to prevention and treatment.
