Head of ELIXIR Project Management Office & European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) Deployment Lead

Juan Arenas Márquez leads the ELIXIR Project Management Office and coordinates the deployment of the European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) — the infrastructure underpinning the commitment of 20+ European countries under the 1+Million Genomes (1+MG) initiative to provide cross-border access to high-quality genomic data for clinicians, researchers, and innovators.

He joined ELIXIR in 2017, where he has managed the European Commission grants portfolio and IMI projects, budgeting, and financial monitoring. He also served as Project Coordinator for Beyond 1 Million Genomes (B1MG), the project that laid the groundwork for today's GDI.

He holds a degree in Computer Science from Universidad de Málaga and an MBA (Executive Masters RItrain — EMMRI), with PM² certification (the European Commission's project management methodology).
