Tim Hubbard

Professor Tim Hubbard is a leading UK bioinformatician and genomics data leader. He has served as Director of ELIXIR, Europe's distributed life-science data infrastructure, since 2024, and is Professor of Bioinformatics at King's College London. He is also a member of the World Health Organization Technical Advisory Group on Genomics (TAG-G), contributing to global thinking on the responsible and effective use of genomics in health.

His work spans genome analysis, clinical genomics, research data infrastructure, and open, reusable life-science data. He previously led Genome Analysis at Genomics England, helping translate whole-genome sequencing into NHS care through the 100,000 Genomes Project. Earlier, as Head of Informatics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, he helped organise the international Human Genome Project. He co-founded Ensembl in 1999 and has led the GENCODE project since 2007, both foundational resources for genome annotation and access.
